Flax Gallery
Faces of Africa
Thursday 10 May 2012 - Saturday 02 June 2012
Faces of Africa is an exhibition of African portraits expressing the diversity of the peoples of Africa. The exhibition contains work in oils, watercolour, encaustic wax, pencil and features the African inspired studio pottery of Lorraine Pollock. Faces of Africa has been displayed at cultural events such as the Belfast Mela and at Belfast Zoo’s African Culture Day. Many local and international artists have also donated work to the exhibition.
Stephen Jamison, the lead artist, has been a full time artist since 2008. He is local to Newtownabbey and paints a wide range of subjects, specialising in portraiture. His paintings hang in collections as far afield as Belgium, South Africa and the USA, as well as in the UK and Ireland.
Rosetta Jallow was born in Carrickfergus but has spent time in Australia, painting and exhibiting in Brisbane. She is also a freelance writer and cartoonist, runs art workshops and gives talks focussing on Africa.
Stephen and Rosetta’s aim is to use their artwork to increase awareness and challenge perceptions in regard to the peoples of the continent of Africa.
